Linda Smith
Fall Resident 2021
Linda Smith is an artist and art educator who lives in NYC. She has been commissioned by the UN to provide photographic classes to survivors and former perpetrators of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. She lived in Kigali, Rwanda for five years where she helped start an after school art center for youth in Rwanda with her partner Prossy Yohanna. She earned a BA from Syracuse University and an MFA from the University of Connecticut. Her work has been exhibited in the United Nations, Embassies and Universities.
For my recent body of work I have collected a lot of research. During this residency I will be spending my time going through my collected research and photographs and incorporating them into my series "Bloody Soil", which deals with trauma and regeneration. I believe the time and space at Tiny Birch Residency will provide me with the needed opportunity to thoroughly analyze my work and series and to expand on my current research. - Linda Smith
