"We have been examining the history and politics of public sites used for private acts, such as the Hudson Piers, public restrooms, and cruising sites, in the face of a pandemic. Spaces that have been used, forgotten, discarded, and reclaimed; structures that have been built, abandoned, reimagined, and demolished.
Before being forced to close through city legislation in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, a majority of these sites were being utilized for safe sex education and practices by the queer community, as well as places for free condoms and pamphlets of information on it’s transmission. In the face of COVID-19, barriers, such as glory holes, are now among NYC government suggested sexual practices. We are interested in the behavioral and spatial change in response to such barriers: from walls, to screens, to gloves and condoms, to masks." - Patrick & Corinna
